3.)  What qualifications do I need to teach English abroad?
For most ESL teaching jobs you need to speak English fluently and have the following:
Passport from an English speaking country
3 or 4 year degree in any discipline

4.)  Do I need a degree to teach abroad?
Most ESL teaching jobs abroad do require that you have a 3 or 4 year degree however there are some jobs that will require a 2 year degree or two years of college/university. 5.)  Do I need to have any teaching experience?
No, although it is appreciated it is not a requirement for most jobs.

6.)  Does my degree country of origin matter?

7.)  Does my nationality matter?
Yes, most countries require ESL teachers to be a passport holder from an English speaking country for example, USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or South Africa. To learn more please contact us at teach@eslrecruitme.com.

8.)  How do you conduct your interviews?
We make every effort to provide our applicants with convenient means of interviewing therefore we offer phone interviews as general means whenever in person interviews are not possible.

9.)  Do I need a TESOL, TEFL, or other teaching certification?

10.)  What happens after I submit the application?
Once your application has been submitted our team will then begin the screening process. If there is a match you will be contacted concerning scheduling an interview. Once the interview process has been successfully completed you will be notified and from there you can begin to submit your application requirements as well as all required documents for your visa. If however there is not a match you will be notified. Please note that we will keep your application on file and you will not need to reapply for that particular position. However you are welcome to apply for other teaching jobs that we may have available.

In most cases the process can take approximately 30 days to complete.

12.)  Can I apply with my friends or family?
Yes, we encourage friends and family to apply together. However be sure to note on both applications the name of the person that you are applying with.

Yes, we can begin the screening process at any time however; placement will be commenced once your degree has been conferred.

15.)  How much money can I make teaching English abroad?
Salary varies depending on the countries that you teach in, for example in the Middle East you make at least $45,000 USD a year while in Asia you make on average $30,000 USD a year.

16.)  What can I expect to be doing as an ESL teacher?
Most jobs require that you teach an average of 4 to 4 ½ hours a day. In addition, you will be required to create lesson plans, evaluate students, and grade their school work. Job duties vary depending on teaching position.

17.)  What other benefits could I expect to receive as a ESL teacher?
Many jobs provide free furnished housing, low cost medical insurance (including dental and vision), roundtrip airfare (some will even pay for accompanying dependents as well as offer discounted or free education to your children), one week to one month vacation, major holidays off with pay (South Korea has at least 10 major holidays), sick days, some even provide lunch, direct deposit, little or no income tax, and more! Yes, your employer will provide some form of training and/or orientation.

Most employers pay monthly and use direct deposit therefore you will need to open a bank account in your host country.

Varies, however most contracts are for one year.

22.)  What age group will I teach?
Depending on the type of employer that you teach for you will more than likely teach children however there are adult teaching jobs available.

23.)  Who will meet me at the airport?
We will assist you and your employer in procuring your travel arrangements before your departure therefore; we will ensure that you will have the name and phone of the representative that will be meeting you at the airport.

24.)  Will I be provided teaching materials/a curriculum?
Yes, there will be no out or pocket expenses for teaching materials as your employer will provide them to you.

25.)  Will I have to pay taxes on the income I make abroad?
Depending on your country of origin you may be required to only pay taxes in your host country and simply report the income you made overseas to your country of origin. For example you are an American and you are teaching in South Korea. You would then need to file and pay taxes in Korea and if your income is below a certain amount (say $80,000 USD for example) then you would only need to report the income you made in Korea to the IRS. Be sure to obtain your tax certificate from your host country government tax office- your employer can assist you in obtaining one. To get the most updated information contact your local tax office.
